Podcast: Tom Read talks GDS’s future strategy

Posted by: , Posted on: - Categories: Digital strategy, GDS team, Podcast, Transformation

Tom Read, GDS CEO, sits by a microphone.

Tom Read was appointed as the Chief Executive Officer of the Government Digital Service in February 2021 - and he’s been busy since then!

For this month’s episode, Tom reflects on his tours inside and outside of digital government, takes us through the newly-launched GDS strategy for 2021-2024 and offers his take on why we’re switching gears from start-up mode - without losing any of GDS’s “secret sauce”...

Interesting and ambitious, best of luck Tom! On a more prosaic note I am trying to register for "Find a will" service at https://probatesearch.service.gov.uk , but after 4 days of waiting it is clear that I am not going to receive an activation email. I know it is a beta but this facet should not be part of the beta. Also somewhere I found a reference to "contact support" but there is no way of doing this! D'oh! Hence this plea for help from the head of GDS!!!
    Thank you

      Hi Jerry,

We'll feed this back to the service owners.

      Thanks,
      The GDS Team

Thanks for the podcast, Vanessa and Tom, it resonated with us at Defra 😀

I’m a user researcher at Defra, looking at flood information - looking at how people access it - whether they can find what they need (or not) - and whether they can understand it (or not). There are 6million users annually.

Alongside user research we’re carrying out this summer, we are keen to team up with GDS to look at the current structure of our info… what’s the best way for departments like Defra to get access to GDS (My understanding is that it’s GDS who own the ‘landing pages’ and ‘topic pages’?)
