On Tuesday, 24th April, between 3:30pm and 5:00pm (venue details can be found below), we are asking representatives of SMEs to come and talk to us about the Open Standards consultation. Whether your product is open source or not, how you deal with government and its procurement process will be affected by the outcome of this consultation and we want to make sure we have all sides of the discussion represented.
The consultation can be read in full online but we are aware that sometimes there just isn’t time to read pages of consultations. So in an effort to make sure that no one potentially affected by the outcome of this consultation is missed we are going to focus in on 3 key points during this discussion.
1. What might government be prevented in doing if open standards are adopted and by turn, what will you be prevented from doing?
2. If the government adopts open standards, will it make it easier or harder for you to do business with us?
3. Do you have any examples of times when the lack of adoption of open standards by government has prevented or acted as a barrier to you doing business with us?
A quick explanation of the key points of the consultation will be given at the beginning of the discussion so you will be equipped to contribute to the debate. We will record all the discussion so we can capture your views and the issues we need to consider.
If you cannot attend this event, please try to take the time to answer the most relevant questions in the online consultation as you do not have to answer all questions for your feedback to be taken into consideration.

There are some positive noises coming from the roundtable event today and apparently a lot less lawyers!
There is also a cut down reply form available from @ric_harvey - http://open.squarecows.com/ which can be very useful if you want your voice heard but have little time to make it happen!

If it's 'first come first served' then there's a chance we could make the journey and not get in - perhaps you should have a simple registration system? A point that has been made elsewhere is that SMEs can't afford to send people to events like these as easily as larger organisations.
